According to the World Wildlife Foundation 2/3 of the worlds wildlife will be gone by 2020.
Since the year 1970 the worlds wildlife populations have gone down 60% due to the increase of human activity. WWF says "We are entering a new era in Earth's history: the Anthropocene."
The study included more than 14,000 monitored populations of the 3,700 vertebrate species found in usable data available.
Although populations have plummeted, nature is known to be resilient and bounce back when it is given the opportunity. Not all hope is lost for the deaths animal populations. Canada is looking into creating more protected ares of land to help populations grow and become healthy again. This will hopefully bring back needed animals that have left certain areas that are trigger species.
Some plants plants depend on animals for nutrients, pollination and seed dispersal. As humans we need plants to produce clean air for is to breath. If the animal population goes down so drastically it causes me to ask a question - will plant life begin to decrease at major levels?

Minimum Wage battle.
The Prime Minster announced that the federal government is not looking to raise minimum wage this year.
How does this effect our country? Let start with workers.
For workers this is a concern and something that does not add benefit to them. Minimum wage earnings demand a livable wage and say that they current minimum wage is not high enough to support themselves and their families.
Lets look at the Business perspective.
For Businesses this is great news! In todays economy some businesses fight to stay profitable. With this news business can continue to operate normally. However if minimum wage way raised this year that would cost them more money which could mean they need to find ways to keep that money in the company. One of their options to do that is by letting employees go.
This creates a problem for both if the minimum wage goes up a) some companies will operate understaffed, b) some employees will lose their jobs. It not an easy discussion or something that has an easy decision. In the next few weeks more will come out in the new about the topic.
More info on the topic and to hear what specific provinces are now saying visit:

Canadas painful new carbon tax being introduced by the Prime Minister.
Why is this happening?
The big reason is because Canada made a commitment/promise to take steps forward in reducing/ slowing the effects global warmings.
By creating a carbon tax the Prime Minister believes more people will take public transit instead of drive and people will be more thoughtful on their fuel consumption. Also, this would push businesses and corporations to find gas/oil saving technology for themselves. One of the last biggest arguments for the carbon tax is that it will create hundreds of new jobs in the resource savings technology industry.
However, there are downfalls to every argument in favor of the carbon tax. The hope that more people will take public transportation only works if the city has enough public transportation will a wide enough reach throughout the city and doesn't even consider people who have to drive outside of the city for work or are disabled in some way or our seniors and cannot take public transit for a particular reasons. This will end up costing lots of the population money. For many, it's already hard enough to survive in the economy with the jobs they have or can't find.
Pushing corporations and business to find solutions will most likely mean a lot of people will be losing their jobs because the company can't afford to operate with all the extra costs from the carbon tax.
It is good to lessen the contribution to global warming from our country however carbon tax is not (in my opinion) the way to go about it. Considering the fuels from vehicles is not the number one cause of emissions affecting global warming.
